4 Days Climbing-NARO MORU ROUTE

Day 1: Nairobi to Met Station

Leave Nairobi for Naro- Moru in the morning arrive in time for lunch. After lunch drive to the main gate. Start a three hour ascending the mountain through the rain forest for the ten kilometers to the Met Station [3,000m]. Dinner and overnight at the camp

Day 2: Met Station to Mackinder’s Hut

After breakfast, continue ascend to Mackinders Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Mackinders Hut to Met Station

Wake up very early in the morning at around 2.30 am and attempt point Lenana via Austrian Hut to Mackinders camp [4160m] for breakfast and then descend down to Met station for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Met Station to Nairobi.

After breakfast, descend the last bit of the mountain from Met Station via Naro Moru main gate for a short drive to Naro Moru town to catch your transport to Nairobi where the tour ends.

Climbing Equipment: Gear for mountain climbing is not included in the tour price but can be hired at Naro Moru.

We can also do one more day for a circuit around the peaks of Mt. Kenya in any of the above programs apart from other Routes.

NB: Technical climbing requires about 7 to 10 days averagely depending on weather and your physical fitness.

 
5 Days Climbing Up Sirimon and Down Chogoria

Day 1: Nairobi to Nanyuki

Leave Nairobi accompanied by our mountain guide arriving at Nanyuki in time for lunch. Afternoon is spent in Nanyuki acclimatizing. Dinner and overnight in a hotel in Nanyuki.

Day 2: Nanyuki to Old Moses camp

After breakfast, drive to the sirimon park gate and begin your 3 to 5 hours hike to Old Moses Camp, 3,330m above sea level for meals and overnight at the hut/tent.

Day 3: Old Moses Camp to Shipton’s Camp

After breakfast a tirring 6 to 7 hours walk from Old Moses camp via Mackinders Valley to Shiptons Hut (4,200m). Dinner and overnight at the hut/camp.

Day 4: Shipton Point to Lenana then Chogoria Bandas

Wake up very early in the morning around 2.30 am ready to hike 3 hours to point Lenana (4,985m). on a clear day, we should be able to see Mt. Kilimanjaro to the south, Mt. Elgon to the west and the Indian Ocean to the East. After point Lenana, descend to Mintos (4,250m) for breakfast then proceed to road head for lunch. Dinner and overnight at Chogoria Bandas for dinner and overnight. Total hours of walk takes about 9 to 10 hours.

Day 5: Chogoria Bandas to Nairobi

After breakfast, an early walk will take us to Chogoria gate for transfer to Chogoria town for lunch then back to Nairobi arriving in the afternoon having conquered Mt. Kenya.

We can also do one more day for a circuit around the peaks of Mt. Kenya in any of the above programs apart from other Routes.

MT. KENYA TREKKING AND FISHING TRIP-6 days

   

Chogoria route is the most recommended and arguably the most magnificent
ascent route to the fishing sites and the summit of Mt. Kenya. It is the driest route up the mountain and the walk beside the Gorges Valley truly spectacular.
The descent via the Sirimon route takes one through some beautiful forest
tracks and complete traverse of the mountain. Accommodation on this
trek is 3 nights in mountain huts and 2 nights camping or opt for spending all nights in the camp.  

DAY 1: NAIROBI- MT KENYA BANDAS (2,900M)* *3HRS, 10KM WALK, 950M ASCENT.
Depart from Nairobi at around 08:30hrs, driving through agricultural country up to Chogoria town for lunch. After lunch, we take 4×4 and drive up to the edge of the bamboo forest where we start our trekking through the dense bamboo forest for distance of 10 km up to the Mt Kenya Bandas. Dinner and overnight at the Mount Kenya Bandas/Camp.

DAY 2:MT KENYA BANDAS–LAKE ELLIS CAMPSITE (3600M)3HRS,9KM,700M ASCENT
After breakfast and sorting of porter loads we set off up the mountain at a nice and easy pace A slightly longer walk via Lake Ellis gives scenic views of Mugi, Ithanguni and the Giants Billiards Table, whilst if we follow the river near road head, upstream for about 3 km, the foreground scenery and flora is particularly beautiful.
Lunch on the banks of a stream, then it’s time to cut up the left hand hillside to our camp at about 3,600m, well away from any of the more “touristy” areas.The evening is spent at the lake fishing. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

DAY 3: LAKE ELLIS- LAKE MACLSON CAMP (3800M) 4-5 HRS, 12KM, 600M ASCENT
Similar early start. Again well off the beaten track to follow a ridge up the mountain for about 3 hours to eventually join the tourist track on the normal Chogoria route at an altitude of about 4,100m. Breath taking views over the Gorges Valley and back over towards Ithanguni and the Northern Moorlands. Lunch is served at a small stream crossing, before continuing for a further hour to the lake macloson  for the evening fishing. Dinner and over night at the camp.

DAY 4 : LAKE MACROSON-SHIPTON CAMP 4200M 4 HRS,7KM,500M ASCENT
After breakfast go up to temple ten simba col down to shipton camp for dinner and over night

DAY 5:SHIPTON-PT LENANA–OLD MOSES CAMP-7-8HRS,20KM,1785M ASCENT,2685M DESCENT
Wake at about 3 am for a hot drink then attempt the Peak (Point Lenana 5985m) arriving by the sunrise. Descend back to Shiptons for breakfast. After beakfast walk the 5 hour descent via Mackinder`s valley to the Old Moses camp (3,300m) The descent is gentle and it offers ample time to enjoy fascinating scenery which includes the moorlands before reaching the camp for dinner and overnight.

DAY 6 OLD MOSES- NAIROBI
After breakfast descend for abour 3hrs to sirimon gate 2650m for tranfer to nanyuki then nairobi arriving late afternoon.
